At long last...I can publish a few pictures from our day trip to the Elephant Sanctuary about 45 minutes outside Pretoria. The sanctuary is home to five rescued elephants from various parts of South Africa. The goal is to rehabilitate them and return them to the wild...but that hasn't happened yet. Our guide was fantastic and we learned a lot about them...including getting to go on a walk with one of them...which involves sticking your fingers up the trunk and leading one around. While interesting and educational, the sanctuary is relatively expensive...about $75 per person for a 2.5 hour tour. I'm not sure it's worth it for those of you planning a visit...with limited time, etc. It's in a beautiful area, but with so many other things to do here...this would probably not be on our list of places to take visitors...unless you really want to go!
