Roll out the red carpet

After 21+ hours of flying, 4 hours in London Heathrow and a 20 minute drive from Johannesburg, we finally arrived in Pretoria on Sunday, January 22, 2012!

The flight from LA to London wasn't too bad. We both slept about 3-4 hours, which helped immensely. Unfortunately our flight from London to Jo'Burg on British Airways was very uncomfortable. That combined with time changes/jet lag, etc...we didn't sleep a wink. After arriving at our home in Pretoria at about 8 am or so, we unpacked and took a 3 hour nap! Then it was off to the grocery store to stock up on supplies. Our local store, SuperSpar, is fine. Cheese seemed to be in short supply and limited options, which was a bummer. Hoping we can find a local cheese store. But we did find some really good fresh baked bread. Otherwise, no big finds there.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day unpacking and moving things around the house. You know...basically fixing everything Andrew did wrong! :-) Just kidding. He did a great job...I'm just polishing things up. Our maid Marjorie comes Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. So yesterday, I also spent some time getting to know her. She's a 1969 Virgo Rooster from Zimbabwe with three children. So we got along wonderfully. Andrew says I learned more about her in five minutes than he did in 3 months. :-) While we were away, she ironed all of Andrew's t-shirts and neatly placed them in the drawers. She also ironed our sheets!

Today has been all about getting the Internet and Vonage phone service running. And...while it took all day, we have success. You can call us at 213-804-5178. Just be aware, we're 10 hours ahead of LA, 7 hours ahead of NY.

Tomorrow, I have orientation at the US Embassy. Once we get some of this stuff out of the way, I absolutely must join the gym, find a yoga studio and get back in the pool! After 2 weeks in Costa Rica...I'm itching to exercise again.
